It just pops up when needed and disappears when no longer required, I've noticed. Even though it is (for an Acorn app) comparatively memory-hungry (typically 5 MB all in), it still seems to take far less memory to run an Internet session with Java et al on the Acorn side that on the PC Card.

More Compaq Ram needed.
Kingston (among others) make RAM that is Compaq compatible. RAM varies in price almost daily, but on the whole its pretty cheap - work on $1 / meg and you're pretty close. Post the machine serial number and I can look up the Compaq manual to see if theres anything special about it. Or theres a 32 and a 16.
