Hi all, I know , there is a recommendation on every box, of what is minimum needed. But in real life, does this run SLOW? I am thinking it would not be a good program for my older computer. ... enough for a decent application or do you need more? I think there are simple applications where you dont need too much info but will they fit? Unless you plan to support Jumbo frames, 2000 bytes should be more than enough of RAM :-). Of course you may need some extra data space for the application data. Paul.

(It also says 8 MB needed on the box.) Brian B is pretty much on track. 8M is the minimum RAM but that depends on your system extensions. How Much RAM Needed for Syst 7?
I have heard the rule of thumb is, virtual memory=amount of ram, so if you have 128mg of Ram, your virtual memory should be set at 128mg. I'm not a windows man myself but I guess the Virtual Memory issue is the same on Macs. I ALWAYS keep my virtual memory OFF. Using VM will significantly slow down your computer.

You have little RAM free, and that is by design; RAM that is sitting unused is utilized for vcache, which speeds up normal operations considerably. If you added more it would also be used in the same way. I have 128 MB and system monitor says I have about 3 MB free right now. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Hell, for most stuff, even the 4Meg fast RAM I had originally had was just as quick. ...It just limited what I could run at all. :) The only thing could be made to run a little faster was Doom. ...And that was only because I put the WAD-file in fast RAM, thus lessening the slowdown when more data needed to be read
